Tiphaine, Head of the museum and guardian of the spirit of the place welcomes you and brings you into the history of Raymond Isidore and his work during the first 5 minutes of your visit. She then accompanies you inside the Maison de Raymond and his wife, a privilege reserved for guided tours. It challenges you on details, answers your questions and is an attentive ear to your feelings and emotions. You walk together to discover «The chapel», then «The black courtyard» to finish with «The summer house». It will let you at the gates of the «Garden of Paradise» discover the exhibition «In the eyes of Picassiette» and stroll at your own pace to finish your visit. You will find it on the terrace to ask your questions, give you a little souvenir in «La Boutik» or enjoy a Beauce lemonade on the «Terrasse de Picassiette».
A surprising and captivating visit for young and old!

Maison Picassiette

Masterpiece of the naive art, the House Picassiette is the work of Raymond Isidore, born in Chartres on September 8th, 1900\. Coming from an unprivileged background, he moves in in 1928, in a small house which he builds, in the district of Saint-Chéron. A few years after this installation, during a walk, he(it) collects china and glass pieces a mosaic of which he(it) makes to decorate the inside of his(its) house. Little by little, he(it) recovers the internal and external walls as well as the furniture, of mosaics of shards or of paintings(paints). His(Her,Its) activity confers on him(her,it) certain reputation which does not affect(allocate) its simplicity. He(It) becomes then the sponger, "Picassiette". In 1956, he extends his house and continues only to adorn the new so created surfaces, isolating himself more and more in his creation and towards others. He dies on September 6th, 1964\. He(It) used 15 tons of shards of dishes(crockery) and multicoloured glasses, for which he(it) is going to look in public dumps. His(Her,Its) creations began in 1930 and ended in its death. The house Picassiette, acquired by the City of Chartres in 1981, is classified as "Historic Monument" in 1983 and labelled Heritage from the XXth century to 2016.
