The Chinon Nuclear Power Plant is offering visits to La Boule on the occasion of its 60th anniversary.
On 14 June 1963, EDF1 delivered its first megawatts on the French electricity grid. More commonly known as the Chinon Ball, this sphere, which rises to a height of 47 metres, was initially the first civilian nuclear reactor in France. Built in 1957, this reactor went into service in 1963 and produced electricity until 1973. La Boule, which has since been converted into a museum, is a link between the history of nuclear production and that of its territory for 60 years now. During a 2:30 visit, accompanied by a guide-lecturer, visitors will enter the building’s grounds to discover its control room and original reactor. This unique industrial heritage, its unusual architecture are the symbol of a great industrial adventure!
