In the first centuries of our civilization, cremation was common. It was not until 789 that Charlemagne forbade cremation. Legalized in 1887, it was not until 1963 that the Catholic Church authorized it. In 1914, the crematorium of Lyon opened its doors and practiced only one cremation in the year. And yet the number of cremations will soon exceed that of burials. For economic reasons? Ethical? Ecological?
