About the location

Église Saint-Médard

On the municipality of Five Mars-la-Pile, in the canton of Chinon, the church Saint-Médard is at the heart of the historic centre of the market town. Built in the fourth quarter of the XIth century, the church bears the name of the holy boss of the city. According to our sources(springs) the latter(this last) would have been called "Saint-Médard-de-la-Pile", and taken the name of "Cinq-Mars-de-la-Pile Mars-de-la-Pile" only at the beginning of the XVIIth century. The church is of Romanic architectural style and will be touched again the XVth and XIXth centuries in particular. It is bound(connected) to the parish Sainte-Joséphine-Bakhita today and belongs to the diocese of Tours(Ballots,Towers).
Having listed(classified) in the inventory of Historic monuments since 1915 for its transept, its bedhead, its bell tower and its bell, the building reveals a rural and authentic silhouette, according to a plan in the shape of cross.
The entrance(entry) of the building is an old(former) beautiful wooden door inlaid in four beautiful stony archings of sizes. The square, relatively thickset bell tower, is at the crossroads of the transept and reveals beautiful geminated bays(berries) and a massive octagonal arrow inherited from the Middle Ages. Inside the building, a wide nave leads to the chorus(choir), magnificently vaulted vaulted.
