The salt attic was built in 1722 by Louis Gabriel de Guéroult, squire, sieur de la Giboudière. In 1727, it was put into service and a first lease was granted to Pierre Brehain, receiver in the salt attic, then a second in 1733, the last lease dated 1788, is given by Louis Alexandre de Guéroult son of the previous, knight, lord of the Mesnil-Chevaline and other places, Officer of the Queen’s Dragons, to Jean Fontaine, Receiver of the Gabelles. During the French Revolution, gabelle was abolished by decree in 1790\. In ruins and now a barn, the salt attic is sold to François Hastey, owner of the Auberge Notre-Dame (now the town hall).
