One year before the Olympic Games in Paris, the exhibition «Sport, memory and defense», designed by the National Office of Veterans and Victims of War, offers an exploration of the deep ties uniting high level sport, armies and memory of combatants and victims of contemporary conflicts. Through unique objects and portraits of sportsmen whose lives were disrupted by the wars, go to meet fighters, plunged in the hell of the Great War like Roland Garros and Marie Marvingt, or soldiers of the shadow during the Second World War, like Alain Mimoun, Louison Bobet and Tola Vologe. Photographs and trophies also showcase the excellence of French military sport, embodied by institutions that train champions, such as the Joinville Battalion and the National Defence Sports Centre.

Entirely renovated in 2009, the museum proposes a route(course) of visit tackling(approaching) the big(great) themes bound(connected) to the last worldwide conflict, by origins in postwar years. Joined with a former station, a long contemporary building(ship) contains a sober and modern exhibition(exposure), allowing to re-locate conflict at first in its historic context by going back up(by raising) «the corridor(lane) of time(weather)» since 1919\. The first part allows to tackle(approach) big(great) events of war on their geopolitical context, of Treaty of Versailles in the Victory of 1945\. Lightings are brought on subjects such as the rise(ascent) of Nazism, exodus and bombardments, disembarkation(unloading) of Normandy. Here, big(great) history(story) is next(goes alongside) to the girl, whose more personal stories evoke the rise(ascent) of Nazism, exodus, or else bombardments. The second part is aimed at submerging the visitor in the everyday life(daily paper) of the French people during the Occupation. In the course of rooms, the themes which follow from it (the diet(regime) of gingham(vichy water) and the Collaboration, Resistance, Internment and Deportation, Libération) are presented under a general and local angle: everyday life(daily paper), rationing, propaganda, STO, the Resistance and the famous attack of the scrubland(resistance movement) of Lorris August 14th, 1944, and of course the sinister concentration camps. Subject(Words) is clear, efficient, supported well with reconstructions and with numerous stories. Numerous original documents and period pieces give rhythm to the route(course) (tickets of rationing, gas generator, weapons, posters, newspapers, stories..) Visit ends with the distribution(broadcasting) of a movie of archives images handling conflict in Loiret. The majority collections comes from gifts(donations). So, weapons, period pieces, documents papers and uniforms rushed of Loiret and Centre region given by all those who lived this sad time(period) or by their heirs. Numerous gifts(donations) so acquired and kept(preserved) over the years allow to the museum to be a delightful place in perpetual evolution. Photographies, propaganda posters and stories allow to the visitor to unwind(unroll) the thread(wire) of six war years.
