About the location

Maison natale de Louis Pasteur
43 rue Pasteur 39100 Dole

  • Bourgogne-Franche-Comté
At the edge of the Channel(Canal) of the Tanners, the house which saw being born Louis Pasteur in Dole represents the starting point of incredible destiny of the most famous of the French scholars. Across a play and delightful route(course), the house redraws its scientist's work by exploring in turn all fields of knowledge which Pasteur put forward(advanced). Especially known for the discovery of the rabies vaccine, the scientific work of Louis Pasteur extends in very numerous domains, in the study of crystals until that of diseases of the worm with silk, via(including) the study of the fermentation of the wine and of the beer. From objects and personal documents, the native house shows how Louis Pasteur, the child of Dole, the face(figure) of the archetypal, known scientist worldwide became. First museum devoted to Pasteur in France, the native house occupies a central place(square) in the creation of pasteurienne legend. Louis Pasteur came towards the end of its life himself(itself) to inaugurate a plate(patch) on the facade, which calls back(reminds) that it is there that he came into the world. Major place of the symbolic construction of Louis Pasteur as benefactor of the humanity, its native house becomes a space in grip(taking) with the representation of contemporary science today. Today, more than a museum, the native house of Pasteur is a place of question setting on science and on face(figure) of the scholar, which associates artistic, social or symbolic approaches of science, from work and from posterity of Louis Pasteur.
