Located on a strategic and dominant position, the oldest mention of the fief of the Chèze dates back to 1278, it is enlarged and modified at the end of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.the castle La Chèze was the property of the Tournon de la Chèze until the middle of the sixteenth century where it passes, by marriage to the Tersac. He is the witness of the wars of religion and more particularly of the Huguenot revolts that strongly affected the region in 1621 and 1628\. On the eve of the French Revolution, he belonged to Portalès, a family from Montpellier. In 1862, it was sold to a Théophile Sauzet, a wealthy Cheylard notable who, he and his successors, will transform it into a bourgeois and comfortable residence, surrounded by a landscaped park with exotic essences. For having sheltered the maquis, it is tragically set on fire by the German troops during the Battle of Cheylard of July 5 and 6, 1944\.
