About the location

Monastère saint-Pierre de Mauriac
rue du collège 15200 Mauriac
  • Cantal
  • Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes
The history of Saint-Pierre de Mauriac Monastery dates back to a very remote time. It would be in the 6th century that a first sanctuary was built at the request of Theodechilde, the granddaughter of Clovis, this one depending on the abbey of Saint-Pierre-le-Vif de Sens. It is in the 9th century that the history of the monastery takes shape with the construction of an abbey church, claustrophobic buildings and the deanery thereafter. The deans of the Order of Saint Benedict succeeded one another and embellished the site over time but the monastery went through, without being spared, great moments of clashes. From its disappearance to the Revolution to its rebirth in the 1980s relive the incredible adventure of this high place in the history of Mauriac
