Free participation. Free access without registration, subject to availability. During the Heritage Days, on 16 and 17, entry to the City of Prehistory is free. Free admission does not apply for visiting the cave.

Unknown to the public, the reserves of the Cité de la Préhistoire, Musée de France, contain a collection of tens of thousands of objects. This is where most of the conservation, study and research work is done. Accompanied by Laurine Viel, the collections manager, you will discover the missions of collection, inventory, restoration... which are ensured behind the scenes by the museum’s scientific team. You will also have the opportunity to meet Hélène Salomon, researcher at the CNRS who works on coloring materials used in prehistory. You can ask her about her work and her latest discoveries!

Dive at the heart of the humanity... The City(Estate) of the Prehistory came to light in February, 2014, after two years of transformation. The immersion to our distant ancestors is immediate thanks to illustrations and sound(resounding) atmospheres. To the liking of the tactile tables and other electronic communication and information terminals, you can affect(touch) with one's fingertips the everyday life(daily paper) of these men(people) and these women at the origin of the humanity. The naturalized animals, ready to dash to you, are so much proofs of a missing living being. And then, in the course of a room, the organizer(presenter) teaches you how it is possible to light(switch on) a fire(light) without match nor lighter, which are techniques to cut a flint, or to hunt(chase away) a bison. Greenhorns as initiated, each discovers in the course of a route(course) of visit totally updated an adapted muséographie, rich in information and emotions. Very visual, this permanent exhibition allows each to adapt its rhythm of visit leaving in the main part or by opting for an experience(experiment) more immersive. This museum is placed in the case of nature of the Big(Great) Site of France of Aven-d' Orgnac which also proposes a visit of this cave in outstanding proportions.
