From 1895 to 1902, the prefecture was built in Place Jean-Jaurès in Saint-Étienne. Lyon architect Huguet, Grand Prix de Rome, is chosen to draw the plans for this emblematic large building.
This massive building is adorned with sculptures by artists Thomas Lamotte and Charles-Louis Picaud that summarize the history of the Forez.
