Prosper Marilhat (1811-1847) genannt «der Ägypter» ein bedeutender orientalischer Maler, geboren in Vertaizon, ist in Mezel Gegenstand seiner größten Retrospektive seit 1973 in Clermont-Ferrand. Von Thiers nach Paris zum Studium gereist, unternahm er von 1831 bis 1833 eine Reise nach Ägypten, die seine Karriere tief prägte. Diese Periode wird auf der Ausstellung durch das Treffen der größten Reihe von Zeichnungen des Orients seit dem Verkauf des Ateliers des Künstlers im Jahre 1849 bemerkenswert dargestellt. Unter ihnen waren zwei große Zeichnungen, die seinem Neffen Adrien Delotz von Thiers gehörten. Dieser besaß auch eine schöne Skizze von Kairo, die auch in Mezel ausgestellt war. Thiers Ansichten veranschaulichen Marilhats Verbundenheit mit seiner Heimatregion. Ansichten aus Italien und Südfrankreich enthüllen ein völlig unbekanntes Marilhat. Die Überraschung ist noch größer mit einem großen Gemälde von Blumen, das einzige, das bis heute bekannt ist und ein Marilhat voller Delikatesse offenbart. Um Marilhat in den künstlerischen Kontext seiner Zeit zu versetzen, zeigt die Ausstellung auch eine große Anzahl von Werken seiner Zeitgenossen: Decamps, Dauzats, Gleyre, de Beaumont, Montfort, Prisse d'Avennes, Bida, Barbot, Crapelet, Eustache.

Prosper Marilhat (1811-1847) called «the Egyptian» important Orientalist painter born in Vertaizon is the subject in Mezel of his largest retrospective since 1973 in Clermont-Ferrand. He went from Thiers to Paris to study, and from 1831 to 1833 he made a trip to Egypt that marked his career. This period is remarkably represented at the exhibition by the meeting of the largest set of drawings in the Orient since the sale of the artist’s studio in 1849. Among them, two large drawings that belonged to his nephew Adrien Delotz de Thiers. He also had a superb sketch of Cairo also exhibited in Mezel. Views of Thiers illustrate Marilhat’s attachment to his native region. Views of Italy and the south of France reveal a totally unknown Marilhat. The surprise is even greater with a large painting of flowers, the only known to date and which reveals a Marilhat full of delicacy. In order to place Marilhat in the artistic context of his time, the exhibition also presents a large number of works by his contemporaries: Decamps, Dauzats, Gleyre, de Beaumont, Montfort, Prisse d'Avennes, Bida, Barbot, Crapelet, Eustache.

Prosper Marilhat (1811-1847) detto «l'Egiziano» importante pittore orientalista nato a Vertaizon è oggetto a Mezel della sua più grande retrospettiva dal 1973 a Clermont-Ferrand. Montato da Thiers a Parigi per studiare, realizza dal 1831 al 1833 un viaggio in Egitto che segnerà profondamente la sua carriera. Questo periodo è notevolmente rappresentato alla mostra dalla riunione del più grande insieme di disegni d'Oriente dalla vendita dello studio dell'artista nel 1849. Tra questi, due grandi disegni appartenuti al nipote Adrien Delotz di Thiers. Questo possedeva anche uno splendido schizzo del Cairo esposto anche a Mezel. Le vedute di Thiers illustrano l'attaccamento di Marilhat alla sua regione natale. Viste dall'Italia e dal sud della Francia rivelano un Marilhat completamente sconosciuto. La sorpresa è ancora maggiore con un grande quadro di fiori, l'unico conosciuto fino ad oggi e che rivela un Marilhat pieno di delicatezza. Per collocare Marilhat nel contesto artistico della sua epoca, la mostra presenta anche un gran numero di opere dei suoi contemporanei: Decamps, Dauzats, Gleyre, de Beaumont, Montfort, Prisse d'Avennes, Bida, Barbot, Pelcraet, Eustache.

Monté de Thiers à Paris pour étudier, il réalise de 1831 à 1833 un voyage en Egypte qui va marquer profondément sa carrière. Cette période est remarquablement représentée à l’exposition par la réunion du plus grand ensemble de dessins d’Orient depuis la vente de l’atelier de l’artiste en 1849. Parmi eux, deux grands dessins ayant appartenu à son neveu Adrien Delotz de Thiers. Celui-ci possédait aussi une superbe esquisse du Caire exposée également à Mezel. Des vues de Thiers illustrent l’attachement de Marilhat à sa région natale. Des vues d’Italie et du sud de la France dévoilent un Marilhat totalement méconnu. La surprise est plus grande encore avec un grand tableau de fleurs, le seul connu à ce jour et qui révèle un Marilhat plein de délicatesse. Afin de replacer Marilhat dans le contexte artistique de son époque, l’exposition présente aussi un grand nombre d’œuvres de ses contemporains : Decamps, Dauzats, Gleyre, de Beaumont, Montfort, Prisse d’Avennes, Bida, Barbot, Crapelet, Eustache.

Las opiniones de Thiers ilustran el apego de Marilhat a su región natal. Las vistas de Italia y del sur de Francia revelan un Marilhat totalmente desconocido. La sorpresa es aún mayor con un gran cuadro de flores, el único conocido hasta la fecha y que revela un Marilhat lleno de delicadeza.
