Exhibition "Buxois, Buxois through the Lens - 1900s"
On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, the Buis-les-Baronnies Town Hall and its Municipal Archives Department, in collaboration with the Baronnies Tourist Office, has chosen to offer you an exhibition of photographs from the collection of Henri Veux one of the first amateur photographers of Buis-les-Baronnies who exercised this passion in the medieval tower where the Tourist Office is located nowadays. It is also in this tower that this exhibition will take place bringing together sixty panels.
Nothing is more commonplace today than photography. Yet in the 1900s, the relationship to images seems very different. This sample makes it possible to observe through the objective of Henri Veux, the inhabitants of Buis-les-Baronnies and surroundings born before the Second World War: wealthy local notables, people from the bourgeoisie, middle-class families, peasants and rural. Being a child, a mother, a woman, a man, a couple, A family in 1900 is to meet for the most modest the first image of oneself and from this point of view this photographic collection is a wonderful breeding ground for sociological study that the archives service will try to highlight and analyze.
A slideshow containing the entire collection of 541 photographs will also be available. Indeed, these men, women and children frozen in history are like orphans of their identity. This exhibition also aims to identify these unknown people that photography is doing more than ever before through our eyes.
This exhibition will start on Saturday 16 September and will be visible until the end of the month at the opening hours of the tourist office. It will also be completed by the presence of old cameras from a private collection.
For the European Heritage Days, the exhibition will be commented by the archivist on Sunday 17 September at 10.30 am.
On Saturday, September 16, at 10:30 am in the tourist office, the archivist will offer you in addition to a commented projection of the Buis «Le Buis en images» postcard collections that had been projected in the cinema in 2020. This slideshow will allow us to discuss the history of the Buis and its transformation in time.
If you have portraits of your Buxois ancestors, which are not in our collections, we are interested in these photographs and we can digitize them to complete our collection.
