EXHIBITION: "Bells tell their story"
HERITAGE EXHIBITION: "Bells tell their story"
Saturday, September 16, 2023, from 2pm to 5pm, an exhibition is proposed at the Saint-Clément church in Chambon-Feugerolles, presenting all 4 bells of the belfry.
Although not the most important, this set has interesting features. The building has the largest bell in the Ondaine valley; weighing 1655 kg, it was melted in Lyon in 1867. Another remarkable element: if the bells are generally made of bronze, the church houses the only steel bell in operation in the valley, manufactured by the Jacob Holtzer steelworks in Unieux.
The history of the 4 bells is to discover in pictures while visiting the church and rediscovering its history through the ages, its statues, stained glass... The video of the bell plenum will be broadcast on screen during the visit.
The exhibition can also be consulted on Sunday, September 17 during the Mass of 10:30 (opening of the church at 9:30).
A SPECIAL BULLETIN «HISTORY OF BELLS»
To discover all the bells of the churches of the Ondaine valley, a special bulletin «History of the bells» will be sold during the exhibition at the price of 5 €.
This publication provides access to images of places usually closed to the public. It allows you to discover the founders of the region and the stages of the manufacture of a bell. From the oldest, classified Historical Monument, melted in 1700, to the largest ensembles in the valley, the booklet also refers to the video recordings of the bells via a set of QR Code throughout the reading.
