“If the bee disappeared from the surface of the globe, man would only have four years to live.” Einstein warned us. This small pollinator insect is an essential part of our biodiversity. Social insects are far from revealing all their mysteries!
Did you know that our prehistoric ancestors already consumed honey, or that the first beekeepers appeared in ancient times? Bees and men have lived together for several millennia, after all, it’s an old friendship. And yet, do we really know the bee? How does it differ from its Hymenoptera wasps, hornets, bumblebees and other ants?
This exhibition will enlighten your doubts but also answer your questions remained in suspense. Indeed, who has never wondered why bees, unlike wasps, die after stinging, or how they make honey, and why they move in swarms. Finally, is there a difference between males and females?
The exhibition «Bees, our lifelong friends» invites us to discover the many secrets of hymenoptera, to differentiate them, to decipher their mode of communication, and to better understand their environmental role. All through ten illustrated and didactic panels full of anecdotes.
The exhibition will be completed by various beekeeping objects, an educational hive, sensory workshops and.... of the honey tasting obviously!

About the location

Le Chai
Place Saint-Pierre, 63270 Vic le Comte

Built in 1790, in the midst of the French Revolution, this building plays a leading role in the wine-making process. Made in arkose, closed and entirely vaulted, it is here that the whole winemaking process took place, from the arrival of the grape harvest to its bottling. There are 5 cellars similar to this one in the town of Vic-le-Comte, with an identical formwork. Measuring 200 m2 per plateau and comprising three floors, including a cellar, as well as a small inner courtyard, this place is bearer of the wine and geological history of the territory.
Today, the Chai is a cultural and heritage site that hosts exhibitions and live shows.
