About the location

Musée François Rude
8 rue Vaillant, 21000 Dijon
  • Côte-d'Or
  • Bourgogne-Franche-Comté
The Rough museum presents moldings of works of the Dijon sculptor François Rude. Having installed(settled) Saint-Étienne in 1947 in the transept of the church, built in the middle of the XIth century and the nave of which was rebuilt in the XVIIIth century, this museum presents moldings of works of the Dijon sculptor François Rude (Dijon, on 1784 - Paris, on 1855). To make better known the production of this famous sculptor, the City of Dijon acquired or made execute, from 1887 till 1910, moldings of the main works of the artist. The key and monumental room(part, play) of this set(group) is the full-scale moulding of the famous bas-relief of the Arc de Triomphe on the Place de l'Étoile, the departure of the volunteers of 1792, commonly called the "Inhabitant of Marseille(Marseillaise)".
