Built according to the plans of architect Étienne Curny, the Crematorium of Lyon was put into service in 1913, without official inauguration, becoming the fifth crematorium to be erected on the national territory.
It is of academic style from the early twentieth century and is recognizable by its dome covered with slate and surmounted by a lantern, inspired by Italian architecture, and by its peristyle, gallery in portico bordered by colonnades.
A true architectural heritage, this monument is listed in the inventory of remarkable 20th century buildings and is located in the New Cemetery of the Guillotière.
Through a guided tour, you will discover the history of cremation in Lyon and the unfolding of this mode of burial. For those who wish, the technical parts will also be accessible.
