Seit Anfang der 2000er Jahre ist die Guillotière zu einem unverzichtbaren Knotenpunkt für die lokale Bevölkerung südlich der Sahara geworden: Hier herrscht eine Atmosphäre, die an Afrika erinnert. Afro-Friseursalons, afrikanische Bars und Restaurants (Maquis), exotische Lebensmittel, Fachgeschäfte für den Verkauf von Kosmetika, Textilien oder Agenturen, die auf den Geldtransfer spezialisiert sind, tragen zu dieser Dynamik bei.
Mehr als nur eine Replik nach dem Vorbild der afrikanischen Metropolen, was hier nachgebildet wird, ist ein kleines Afrika, «Europa». Es ist ein Zentrum der Gesellschaft, ein Treffpunkt für die Einwanderung aus Afrika südlich der Sahara, ein Bruch mit der Einsamkeit für einige. Wir sind hier, um Landsleute zu treffen. Diese Geschäfte sind auch Ressourcenorte, die die Integration von Neuankömmlingen fördern. Genau wie Brüssel in Matonge oder Paris in Château Rouge, jetzt Lyon in Guillotière.
Benjamin Vanderlick hat diese Fotoreportage im Jahr 2013 im Auftrag des Afrikanischen Museums in Lyon gemacht. Wir schlagen vor, 10 Jahre früher zurückzukehren, als man sich der metropolitanen Ausstrahlung von Guillotière für die afrikanische und kreolische Lyoner Bevölkerung kaum bewusst wurde.

«La Guillotière, la Petite Afrique»

Since the beginning of the 2000s, the Guillotière has become an essential crossroads for the local population from sub-Saharan Africa: here we find an atmosphere, something reminiscent of Africa. Afro hairdressers, African bars and restaurants (maquis), exotic foods, shops specialized in the sale of cosmetic products, fabric or agencies specialized in the transfer of money all contribute to this dynamism.
More than a replica modelled on African metropolises, what is recreated here is a small “European” Africa. It is a centre of sociabilities, a gathering place for immigration from sub-Saharan Africa, a break for some with loneliness. We are here to meet fellow Canadians. These businesses are also resource centres that help newcomers integrate. Just like Brussels in Matonge, or Paris in Château Rouge, now Lyon in Guillotière.
Benjamin Vanderlick made this photographic report in 2013 at the request of the African Museum of Lyon. We propose to return 10 years earlier, when we were barely aware of the metropolitan influence of Guillotière for the Lyonnais African and Creole populations.

Dall'inizio degli anni 2000, la Guillotière è diventata un crocevia imperdibile per la popolazione locale originaria dell'Africa subsahariana: qui si respira un'atmosfera, qualcosa che ricorda l'Africa. I parrucchieri afro, i bar-ristoranti africani (la macchia), gli alimentatori esotici, i negozi specializzati nella vendita di cosmetici, tessuti o agenzie specializzate nel trasferimento di denaro partecipano a questo dinamismo.
Più che una replica ricalcata sulle metropoli africane, ciò che si ricrea qui è una piccola Africa «all'Europea». È un centro di socialità, di raduno per l'immigrazione dall'Africa subsahariana, di rottura per alcuni con la solitudine. Siamo qui per incontrare dei compatrioti. Questi negozi sono anche luoghi-risorsa che favoriscono l'inserimento dei nuovi arrivati. Proprio come Bruxelles a Matonge, o Parigi a Château Rouge, ora Lione a Guillotière.
Benjamin Vanderlick ha realizzato questo servizio fotografico nel 2013 su richiesta del Museo africano di Lione. Proponiamo di ritornare 10 anni prima, quando si prendeva appena coscienza dell'influenza metropolitana di Guillotière per le popolazioni africane e creole di Lione.

Depuis le début des années 2000, la Guillotière est devenue un carrefour incontournable pour la population locale originaire d’Afrique subsaharienne : on retrouve ici une ambiance, quelque chose qui rappelle l’Afrique. Les salons de coiffure afro, bars-restaurants africains (les maquis), alimentations exotiques, magasins spécialisés dans la vente des produits cosmétiques, de tissu ou agences spécialisées dans le transfert d’argent participent à ce dynamisme.
Plus qu’une réplique calquée sur les métropoles africaines, ce qui se recrée ici est une petite Afrique « à l’Européenne ». C’est un centre de sociabilités, de rassemblement pour l’immigration d’Afrique subsaharienne, de rupture pour certains avec la solitude. On est là pour rencontrer des compatriotes. Ces commerces sont aussi des lieux-ressources qui favorisent l’insertion des nouveaux arrivants. Tout comme Bruxelles à Matonge, ou Paris à Château Rouge, désormais Lyon à Guillotière.
Benjamin Vanderlick a réalisé ce reportage photographique en 2013 à la demande du Musée africain de Lyon. Nous proposons de retourner 10 ans plus tôt, alors qu’on prenait à peine conscience du rayonnement métropolitain de Guillotière pour les populations lyonnaises africaines et créoles.

Desde principios de los años 2000, la Guillotière se ha convertido en una encrucijada ineludible para la población local originaria del África subsahariana: se encuentra aquí un ambiente, algo que recuerda a África. Las peluquerías afro, los bares-restaurantes africanos (maquis), las fuentes exóticas, las tiendas especializadas en la venta de productos cosméticos, de tela o agencias especializadas en la transferencia de dinero participan en este dinamismo.
Más que una réplica calcada de las metrópolis africanas, lo que se recrea aquí es una pequeña África «a la Europea». Es un centro de sociabilidades, de reunión para la inmigración del África subsahariana, de ruptura para algunos con la soledad. Estamos aquí para conocer compatriotas. Estos comercios son también lugares-recurso que favorecen la inserción de los recién llegados. Al igual que Bruselas en Matonge, o París en Château Rouge, ahora Lyon en Guillotière.
Benjamin Vanderlick realizó este reportaje fotográfico en 2013 a petición del Museo Africano de Lyon. Proponemos volver 10 años antes, cuando apenas se tomaba conciencia de la proyección metropolitana de Guillotière para las poblaciones lionesas africanas y criollas.
