This year, the Société philomathique de Verdun is celebrating the bicentenary of its creation. Founded on August 1, 1822, this scholarly society is at the origin of the constitution of the fund of the present museum of the Princerie. Initially primarily oriented towards science, society will gradually open up to local history, with a marked interest in archaeology and heritage.
Tracing the two centuries of existence of the Philomathic Society, this exhibition shows the persistence of its original purpose of scholarship and dissemination of knowledge.
It also allows you to discover the rich and eventful history of the collections that have gradually been built and presented in various Verdun buildings until their permanent installation in the Princerie Hotel since 1932.
