Constructions in adobe, poured earth, bauge, adobe, torchis or compressed earth block, walls insulated in bales of straw or hemp earth, bamboo frames, reed blankets, etc. «TerraFibra architectures» unveils the 40 finalists of the first world prize for contemporary architecture in raw earth and plant fibres. Co-produced by the Pavillon de l'Arsenal, amàco and Les Grands Ateliers, the exhibition and accompanying book present these international projects and explain, through a thematic path, the qualities and advantages of these materials and techniques, old and innovative, which implement them.
Faced with the climate challenge and the necessary adaptation of the building systems, the use of bio-sourced and geo-sourced materials offers virtuous technical solutions. Some have been tried for centuries, others are invented today. Combining earth and vegetable fibres enhances the diversity of materials and reaffirms the importance of constructive intelligence, which aims to use the right amount of the right material in the right place. Emphasizing this complementarity of materials also means avoiding the pitfall of a sector focused on a single technical solution, model definitely without future and particularly polluting.
The exhibition is organized for the fibres according to the plant used (hemp, straw, reed, bamboo) and for the raw earth according to the techniques (adobe, poured earth, bauge, adobe, block of compressed earth, torchis and coating). Photographs, scale 1 prototypes and technical drawings allow visitors to touch these abundant materials, while admiring the creativity of the presented architectures.
Exhibition co-produced by the Arsenal Pavilion, amàco and Les Grands Ateliers, as part of the TerraFibra Award. Presented at the Pavilion August 31, 2022 to January 15, 2023. Free entry, Wednesday to Sunday, 1-7 pm.
