Château de Villeneuve La Comtesse is a plain castle, located north of the Saintonge, southwest of the Chizé forest, between Niort (Deux-Sèvres) and Saint Jean d'Angély (Charente Maritime), in the town of Villeneuve La Comtesse.
Born of the Hundred Years' War, it is a unique example of medieval military architecture from the time of Charles VII and Scottish inspiration. The construction of the castle was carried out at the beginning of the 15th century by a Scottish family very close to Charles VII, the Chamber’s. Then, by marriage in 1528, the châtellenie became the property of the Laurencie family until 1843, date of the purchase of the castle and the adjoining lands by the Leculliez family. In 1936, her owner, Élisabeth Leculliez, and her husband, Roger Soulard, a doctor at Tonnay-Boutonne, had the dungeon roof, drawbridge and walls restored.
The Castle was listed in the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments in September 1949\. Since 1968, one of their children, Pierre Soular
