After the opulence that followed the end of the Crusade against the Albigensians, a major climatic deterioration led from 1305 to a widespread famine and the cessation of the construction of many churches in the seneschal of Carcassonne. The renewal of Christianity in our region is due to Pope John XXII of Avignon. In the middle of this century the great epidemic of Black Plague appeared. These two plagues will be recurring throughout the fourteenth century in the west of Audois in particular. In 1355, the last two months of the year, our region was ridden by the Black Prince, who, mixing Atilla and Vladimir Putin, razed a strip of about ten kilometres from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, both on the way back and forth. The abuses continued almost for a century. Here we can mention the various gangs of truckers, mercenaries unemployed during the truces and revolt of the Tuchins in Languedoc from 1381 to 1383. Locally, Arzens changed lord and master. The Viscounts of Armagnac-Fezensaguet lasted for a century, starting in 1310. We will then talk about the importance of the co-lords of Arzens, the De La Roque, very rich and great castle builders especially that of Arzens.

This municipal foyer was built in the 1950s, on the initiative of Henri Sabadie, Mayor of Arzens and his Municipal Council. Its entrance is decorated with two ceramics by Jean Camberoque, a great Carcassonne artist, celebrating the twinning of Arzens with the villages of Hattenheim (Rheingau - Germany) and Fontanile (Asti - Italy). It serves for the events of the associations of the commune and is used every year since 1989 to host the conferences of the Estivales de la Malepère.
