Église Saint-Arbogast
8 rue des Mérovingiens, Strasbourg 67000
Church with wooden pieces the bell tower of which has just been restored. Built in 1910 for the suburb Green Mountain – Elsau who(which) counts 57 % of Catholics among its 4000 inhabitants, the church Saint-Arbogast is located in "the 2nd beam of fortifications", military zone where any building(ship) must be shaved by his owner if the city is in a fit state of seat(siege). This is why the architect Joseph Beck de Frankenthal in the Palatinate conceives(designs) a half-timbered church, made by wood and by bricks. In 6 months, the church will be built in the middle of meadows, on a ground lined by the road of Schirmeck and Grünewarthbaechel. In spite of its precarious status, the church is a worthwhile building, with its facade sheltering the statue of the protecting saint, bishop of Strasbourg in the VIth century s., with a triple nave ending by a right(straight) chorus(choir) and with a bell tower 30 metres high. Frescoes and wooden altar disappeared; the sculpted wooden Way of the Cross(long, hard way) and some statues of the same invoice(making) stay of which a remarkable " Pieta «, work of the brothers Moroder d' Offenbourg: two hunting contain remains of saint Arbogast; the organ Roethinger dates of 1916\. This church stays a rare witness(baton) of the said architecture of "glacis", misread(underestimated) or disappeared.
