The Regional Audit Board, a financial authority set up in 1983 with decentralisation, controls local authorities, inter-municipal authorities and hospitals in the region, 3,000 bodies to be audited, and over €30 billion in operating revenue. It can also audit mixed economy corporations or associations funded by these communities. Its reports are public. The chamber also has a task of budgetary control, upon referral to the prefect, and may challenge, by its judgments, the responsibility of public accountants.
