Panoramic tour of the Notre Dame church bell tower

Church rebuilt in 1888 in the neo-Romanesque style by René Ménard with a beautiful bell tower
17 and 18 September 2022Passed
office de tourisme du Vignoble de Nantes

The church was considered a historic monument in very poor condition and was completely razed and rebuilt in 1887-88 by Nantais architect René Ménard. The body of this new sanctuary, in neoclassical style, is strongly inspired by the church of St John and St Paul in Rome, originally a Roman public basilica. The church’s bedside can be seen on the outside. The bell tower is characteristic of the Tuscan churches of the 13th century. Inside, the nave has an exposed and sculpted chestnut wood structure and a floor made of cobs. The fresco of the choir, like that of the baptismal collections, is the work of Georges Lusseau, a Clissonnais painter. The fresco that decorates the vaulted stone choir represents the Assumption of the Virgin. The characters are very stylised, long in homage to the Italian artists of the Renaissance (Giotto, Masaccio ). The composition is very symmetrical.

Judged in very bad condition, the church was completely razed and rebuilt, in 1887-88, by the architect Nantais René Ménard. The body of this new sanctuary, in neoclassical style, is strongly inspired by the church of St John and St Paul of Rome, originally a Roman public basilica. The sanctuary of the church is visible outside. The bell tower is characteristic of the Tuscan churches of the 13th century. Inside, the nave has an exposed and sculpted frame, made of chestnut wood and a floor in ears. The fresco of the choir, like that of the baptismal fonds , is the work of Georges Lusseau, painter clissonnais. The fresco that decorates the stone vaulted choir depicts the Assumption of the Virgin. The characters are very stylised, long lines in homage to the Italian artists of the Renaissance (Giotto, Masaccio ). The composition is very symmetrical.
