Free visit of the castle-museum of Noirmoutier-en-l'Ile
The castle of Noirmoutier was built at the end of the twelfth century by the lord Pierre V de la Garnache.
Symbol of feudal power, place of residence, military fortress and prison, Noirmoutier Castle is one of the best preserved Romanesque dungeons of the Great West. The site has been a Historic Monument since 1994.
The castle contains a museum located in the dungeon. The multidisciplinary collections evoke the island of Noirmoutier and its history from prehistoric times to the 20th century.
2022 Temporary Exhibition "The Middle Ages in Comics" pays tribute to the 9th art and to this historical period that inspired many draftsmen and screenwriters. Historical reality rubs shoulders with Middle Ages fantasized or surreal. The castle makes a joyful dive into this universe.
