For the first time in 8 centuries, the Land of Briord opens its doors to free or guided visits on the occasion of the European Heritage Days.
The Terre de Briord project, launched in March 2022, aims to restore and preserve an exceptional historical heritage site in the Pays de Retz.
The origin of the occupation of Briord Land was established at the beginning of the 13th century by the presence of Lord Seris de Rezay. In 1770, the current castle, attributed to the architect Jean-Baptiste Ceneray, was built on the orders of the seigneur Joseph Charette de Briord.
Its neoclassical architecture is characteristic of the Folies Nantaises built in the Enlightenment.
Beyond the castle, the Terre de Briord is made up of a large number of buildings erected in the 18th and 19th centuries:
The chapel and its chaplaincy, the stables, the water tower or even a village.
