Logis de l'Artichaut (dit Maison Billaud)
2, rue Gaston Guillemet, 85200 Fontenay-le-Comte
Two lodgings separated by an interior courtyard, the vault in basket handle of the corridor is decorated by coffers in bas-relief. The fruit of the “Renaissance Fontenaisienne” which saw, in the sixteenth and early seventeenth degrees, the prodigious architectural development of the city, then capital of Bas-Poitou, the Maison Billaud was built in two phases, 25 years apart, in the second half of the sixteenth. Consisting of two buildings, the oldest of which rises on the street, it is particularly distinguished by its façade on courtyard, whose very scholarly design is based on the most innovative Parisian experiences of the moment. The whole of its architecture is very neat, representative of a quality of construction shared by many other buildings of the same period in Fontenay-le-Comte. The Billaud House is currently devoted to contemporary art exhibitions.
