There was a fortified building since the fifteenth century as evidenced by the watchtower with a staircase serving the floors of the current dwelling, rebuilt in the middle of the eighteenth century by René André de La Fournerie, Seigneur de la Ferrière et de Chain, descended from the ironworkers who had acquired the seigneury in 1610\.
