About the location

Ancien couvent de la Baumette
1 chemin bas de la Baumette, 49000 Angers
  • Maine-et-Loire
  • Pays de la Loire
Former Franciscan convent of the Cordeliers and then the Récollets, founded in the 15th century by King René, built on a rock overlooking a bend of the river La Maine. Classified as Historical Monuments, this private monument located in Angers offers one of the most prestigious landscapes that the Angevine community can be proud of. The convent, founded in the 15th century by King René, has an 18th century cloister, a 15th century chapel, its old cemetery and 14 terraced gardens carved in the Roc de Chanzé schist with basins and wells. The site of the Old Baumette Convent has been listed since 2010 as part of the Maine-Loire Confluence and the Angevins hillsides as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
