Firmly anchored on its mound since the eleventh century, the chapel dominates the bay. It is a stocky building where the four openings are semicircular: detail revealing its primitive Romanesque style. The bell tower is posterior and probably served as a watchtower for the Templars since it dominates the Baie de Bourgneuf and the Marais Breton. As soon as you pass the door, do not miss to admire the altarpieces of the seventeenth century characteristic of Baroque art. Two statues are particularly remarkable because they prove the Breton and Poitevine influences that shaped the Pays de Retz. One, in English soil dating from the eighteenth century is on the right side altar: Saint-Gwénolé, patron saint of paludiers. This saint was also invoked by the young girls who wanted to get married in the year: they pricked the toe of the saint to find the soul mate and get married in the year.
