An integral part of the commune’s heritage, the Point de Beauvais Museum is a place of memory, but also of discovery and sustainability of the famous embroidery technique at Point de Beauvais. You will discover embroidered works remarkable by their finesse and colors: paintings, clothes and linen, or pieces of furniture. In particular, you can admire a magnificent fresco of 12 meters long, entirely embroidered, and tracing the rich history of the town of Bourg-le-Roi. The crochet chain stitch lends itself to the shimmering colors, it makes knit tight that allows successful gradients. The technique would come from the depths of history; it was very common in China and the East. All that could be embroidered was it (silk, organdi, tulle, canvas, leather...). First oriented towards the costume, then the lingerie, he turned to the furniture, the shoe, the glove, the curtains, the linen...
Madame de Pompadour herself was seduced by this technique and devoted herself to it with application. Precision, care, dexterity, patience are the key words of Point de Beauvais. Undoubtedly inspired by the similarities of the subjects and "to confuse the clientele, the Parisian upholsterers baptized "Beauvais", the work of Bourg-le-Roi. It is here that these beautiful decorative pieces, renewed from the great centuries"... " And it is almost only here that the chain stitch in its artistic applications has been practiced for some forty years". Félix Boulard (1917) In 1930, the Point de Beauvais became a public limited company and was even listed on the stock exchange. The adventure ended unfortunately in 1968, for lack of a buyer.
For more than a century, Boulard had acquired such a reputation that the company exported to many countries, notably to the United States, and worked for the court of England, the principality of Monaco and even the Elysée Palace. Today, some workers continue the tradition and passionately share their art during demonstrations at the Museum, during travelling exhibitions or internships.
