The Château de Massuguiès overlooks in a picturesque site, 700 m above sea level, the Haute Vallée du Dadou, 50 km east of Albi. The construction, which probably dates from the end of the 14th century, consists of three bodies of buildings around a Renaissance courtyard, whose fourth side is closed by a large thick wall. At each corner are erected strong towers whose loopholes watch the facades. Steep slate roofs crown the whole and a ditch along the facades at midday and sunset accentuates the medieval aspect of the castle. On the ground floor, frescoes from the 17th century adorn the dining room. A beautiful sandstone staircase leads to the first floor where one discovers large rooms with Renaissance fireplace.
The history of the Seigneury dates back to the 12th century, the House of the Cellier giving the land in 1166 to the Abbey of Bonnecombe in Rouergue. In 1256, the Abbey, in its turn, attributed Massuguiès to Isabeau de Curvalle whose little daughter, Catherine de Manencourt, m
