Discover the Adour and its many tributaries. The exhibition takes you to the heart of this river, from its Pyrenean springs to its mouth. A sensitive approach to the territory in order to make it a sustainable heritage to pass on to future generations!

The exhibition «Adour, d'eau et d'hommes» highlights the omnipresent water in our department. Renowned for its coastline of nearly 110 km long or its large lakes in the north, the department of Landes is also the history of a river, the Adour, and that of its tributaries, a great marker of our space that has shaped the landscapes over the centuries.
This exhibition invites the public to dive into the heart of the river, from its sources to its mouth, with the aim of making the Landais aware of the richness of its heritage to better understand the stakes of tomorrow.
The availability of water resources and river transport have conditioned the installation and development of the Landes cities. Similarly, the development of agriculture and the deployment of economic activities are linked to water resources. Thus, water and streams have been powerful factors in the history and evolution of territories but also of societies.
If it is very difficult to make the history of the Adour, as the subject is so vast, it was perhaps appropriate to remember the question of the specificity of the Adour River for the department of Landes. Like all the great rivers of France, the Adour has had an eventful history, in close connection with Man.
Described as capricious, wandering, tumultuous or nurturing by the men who tamed it, this is the story of the Adour that the Archives invites you to discover.
