The Château de Richemont, consisting of two square houses connected by a corner tower, was built between 1564 and 1581 by Pierre de Bourdeille, a 16th century memorial artist, better known as Brantôme. After a bad fall of a horse that interrupted his military career, he wrote his works there and lived there until his death on July 5, 1614. He is buried in the castle chapel.
