Naturally present under the Pyrenees for millions of years, the Salt of Salies-de-Berna is protected at depth in waters ten times saltier than sea water.
It is obtained by simple evaporation of these groundwater according to an old method: in a salt pan. This authentic and traditional method of production gives this 100% natural salt, exceptionally rich in trace elements, unparalleled taste qualities.
It has been used for centuries on tables in the South West of France. It is always preferred to any other salt by salting professionals, especially those of Bayonne ham. In fact, Salies-de-Bern Salt is recommended as part of the Bayonne Ham PGI.
