About the location

Château de Morlanne
Carrère du château, 64370 Morlanne
  • Pyrénées-Atlantiques
  • Nouvelle-Aquitaine
Built in 1373 by Gaston III of Foix-Béarn (known as «Gaston Fébus»), the Castle of Morlanne is one of the most beautiful examples of feudal construction on the borders of Landes and Béarn. Its stone and brick architecture makes it an atypical medieval fortress testifying to the astute processes of its Languedoc architect Sicard de Lordat.
Hélène and Raymond Ritter, the last private owners, allowed in the 1970s the renaissance of the castle before bequeathing it and all their collection of art objects to the Department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques.
