About the location

Cadillac-sur-Garonne
24 place de la République, 33410 Cadillac
  • Gironde
  • Nouvelle-Aquitaine
Located on the right bank of the Garonne River, Cadillac is 35 km south-east of Bordeaux and an hour’s drive from the Arcachon Basin. The city is located in the heart of a wine region. From the hillsides to the Garonne, the appellations «Cadillac», «Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux» and «Premières Côtes de Bordeaux» share 1600 hectares and make the international fame of the bastide.
The bastide of Cadillac was founded in 1280 for the King of England. Its original geometric plan, its islets of houses, its central square with a few arcades, two fortified doors, three towers and a large part of its surrounding wall still remain. The church, dating from 1494, contains an altarpiece of 1632 in marble and bronze, a chapel that housed the mausoleum of the Duke of Epernon and a newly restored organ. The town is dominated by the superb ducal castle.
