«Le Nez en partage» offers a family audience to rediscover our olfactory sensibility so that they can later have fun sharing and exchanging their smells experiences with their families.

Among the five senses, the olfaction remains very particular, powerful and immersive but also mysterious and unknown. It is the key to our emotional memories perhaps much more than the other four senses. Whether consciously or not, our nose smells constantly. It analyzes them and implicitly modifies our behavior according to them.
We can thus be attracted or repelled, intrigued or indifferent, excited, sometimes assaulted or alerted but also soothed and reassured. Smells accompany us in our daily life since our birth and throughout our life and their interpretation becomes autobiographical: they speak about us, our life, our experiences.
By paying attention to it, we find that smell is a very intimate, personal sense, very linked to our memory and memories. Feeling to locate, interact, remember, but do we all feel the same way?
It is in five stages that the workshop «Le Nez en partage» proposes to a family audience to rediscover, in a first step, its olfactory sensitivity in order to be able to later, have fun to share and exchange in family its experiences of smells.

The current collections of the Museum of Ethnography of the University of Bordeaux (MEB) gather about 5,000 objects from Africa, America, Asia, Oceania. Illustrating the daily life of Indigenous peoples, the oldest objects date from the end of the 19th century and come from the same collection as those of the Guimet and Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac museums. The creation of the MEB dates from 1894 within the faculty of medicine of Bordeaux. After a long closure, it reopened its doors in 2011, and has since proposed nine temporary exhibitions. With the exhibition Textile(s) 3D the museum questions how digital technologies allow to know, study and value cultural heritage. How do social and “hard” sciences work together to preserve it? The European Heritage Days are an opportunity to come and meet the textile collection of the MEB, as beautiful as it is fragile and enter the world of cutting-edge technologies in the service of the knowledge and protection of ancient textiles.
