Laurent Coulonges, a notary in Sauveterre-la-Lémance, devotes part of his life to archaeological research in the Lémance valley.
In 1923, he discovered an original hunter-gatherer culture, to which he gave the name Sauveterrien (-9,000 to -6,500 years).
Come and discover this extraordinary destiny!
Unique pieces to discover about the character’s past and some of his discoveries of the territory Fumel Vallée du Lot.
Temporary exhibition 2022 SauveTerre Museum of Prehistory, in partnership with the National Museum of Prehistory, the Department of Lot-et-Garonne, the Museum of Fine Arts of Agen and the town hall of Sauveterre-la-Lémance.

The Museum of Prehistory offers a tool that places science at the heart of its museography, thanks to a permanent exhibition and an archaeological site. Based on the excavations conducted in the valley by Laurent Coulonges and his discovery of the Sauveterrien, the public is invited to question the adaptation of man to the climate changes of prehistory.
