Revolutionary in design when it was built in 1907, this building now houses historical collections from the 12th century to 1940\. Architect Albert Coureau used modern materials: reinforced concrete beams and joists, floor decks and beams from the cast iron shelves. However, he concealed them behind an academic façade in the Belle Époque style.
