When the archives of Father Castor are unveiled
Enjoy guided tours of the Père Castor archives, complete and remarkably preserved, which constitute an exemplary and rare memory of the revolution of pedagogy in the twentieth century.
This collection, made up of documents of very varied forms and media (notes, correspondence, original illustrations, albums of first editions, sound recordings, photographs, advertising catalogues, etc.) brings together materials for pedagogical reflection that have gradually led to collaborative, but highly structured and thoughtful creation of what is better known as Pere Castor’s albums.
These children’s books, in which creators, Russian, German, Polish, Czech, Dutch, Swedish, Belgian and French, have collaborated, are today considered classics of children’s literature, translated into a large number of languages. With the educational games designed by the Atelier du Père Castor, they have made the theoretical achievements of the teachers of the New Education movement efficient and accessible to as many people as possible.
Since 2017, they have been registered in UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register.
