Edifice roman en partie reconstruit à la fin du XIIIe siècle, composé d'une nef et d'un chevet plat. Les travaux et la construction des voûtes se sont terminés aux environs de 1470-1500. L'édifice est en partie détruit en 1576 par les Huguenots puis lors des troubles de la Fronde en 1652. De grands travaux sont entrepris à partir de 1845 pour l'agrandir, d'après les plans de Henri Duphot. La nef est reconstruite et voûtée, deux bas-côtés latéraux sont élevés dans le prolongement des anciennes chapelles, la façade occidentale est remaniée. En 1859, la reconstruction du clocher est entreprise par l'architecte Léo Courau qui s'inspire du clocher de Chartres. En 1891, un vitrail est réalisé en hommage au missionnaire Louis Beaulieu, originaire de Langon, et torturé en Corée en 1866.
