About the location

Château de Montastruc
Montastruc, 24 520 Lamonzie-Montastruc
  • Dordogne
  • Nouvelle-Aquitaine
Built on a rocky promontory incorporating a very old troglodytic site of cluseaux, particularly used in the 5th century, the castle of Montastruc presents a rare testimony of more than 1500 years of history. Its ramparts, whose elements date from the eleventh century, protect a feudal manor of the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries, completed by an extension early eighteenth of great elegance. The stables date from the 17th century and the dovecote from the 18th century.
The castle has beautiful interior decorations of the fourteenth and eighteenth centuries. A Venus/goddess of the earth (5th century), and a fox seizing a dove (16th century) are carved at the walls of the cluseaux.
Park, cluseaux and buildings are listed as Historical Monuments in their entirety.
