Guided tour: the hamlet Bourgeois
The hamlet Bourgeois, protected from view, is located between the Residence of the Saline and the Rue de la Paix. The remarkable vaults of the sixteenth century immortalized by the painter Pierre Campain, lead to a small street by a covered passage with a pedestrian gate and plow, immediately followed by a large gate that opens onto the courtyard of an old farm with its defensive square staircase tower. The common closing the courtyard shelter stable, storeroom and barn above which a loft of 420 boulins. Defensive staircase tower and dovecote, references to the attributes of the seigneurial domain that illustrate the many manors of the Cotentin. Facing the vaults, stands parallel to the sea a vast and high residence, known as the "manor of the hamlet Bourgeois". It still has a square tower of the seventeenth century, 4 floors high with under its roof a small room equipped with four openings that evoke a watchtower. Coastal monitoring at that time was a necessity for the protection of populations.
