When the strongholds of Breteuil and Verneuil were founded, William the Conqueror and Henri I Beauclerc diverted the Iton River at Bourth in the 11th and 12th centuries to meet the needs of the population and the needs of defence. The two canals will be called the “forced arms of the Iton” and the masonry work the “Becquet”. Restored several times, eight centuries later, it still plays its role. Discover this unique historical curiosity.
