Two tours are scheduled for Saturday, September 17. One at 10:30 am and the second at 3:00 pm. Rendezvous in the basilica.
The Basilica in the Fields, The Work of Abbé Buguet:
The basilica of the Chapel-Montligeon, leaning against the forest of Reno faces the hills of the Perche. Its impressive size has earned it the nickname «cathedral in the fields». Since 1884 this high place of prayer for the souls of purgatory has been the answer to one of the most intimate questions that inhabit the heart of man: is there a life after death?
The stained glass windows of the basilica, the art of stained glass from 1912 to 1978
Remarkable and unique ensemble that allows to follow the evolution of the art of the stained glass window from 1912 to 1978.
Prayer for the Dead and Perpetual Mass
The celebration of Mass is at the heart (and in the choir!) of Montligeon’s work. They pray especially for all the deceased who are recommended to the prayer of the shrine: it is the Montligeon Fraternity. Even today, everyone is free to register or ask for the registration of a living or deceased relative or friend in the Society. The names of these deceased have been kept since the origin of the work in 1884 in registers, stored in the furniture on the left of the sacristy: the obituary.

A place of prayer and Marian pilgrimage
The Shrine of Our Lady of Montligeon is the world centre of prayer for the dead and of Christian hope. It welcomes the whole year for a pilgrimage, a break, alone, in family or in group. Montligeon is also 1200 prayer groups in 32 countries that pray for the dead. As Don Paul Denizot, rector of the shrine, recalls: "It is never too late to touch the hearts of those we have loved, even after death".

The basilica, the work of Abbé Buguet In a neo-gothic style, the basilica of the Chapelle-Montligeon, leaning against the forest of Reno, faces the hills of Perche. Its impressive size (74 m long and 32 m wide at the transept, and two steeples 60 m high) earned it the nickname of «cathedral in the fields». The first stone was blessed on June 4, 1896 by Bishop Trégaro and the church was given to worship on May 31, 1911 after being blessed by Bishop Buguet, founder of the expiatory work. The solemn consecration took place on August 28, 1928 by Bishop Pasquet, then Bishop of Séez.
The stained glass windows of the basilica: the art of stained glass from 1912 to 1978
Tourists and pilgrims particularly appreciate the beauty of its stained glass windows which form a remarkable and unique ensemble that allows to follow the evolution of the art of stained glass from 1912 to 1978\. The master glassmaker Muraire is consulted for the glass windows of the painted glass choir that illustrate the Pas
