An admirer of Claude Monet and French impressionists, Călin Alupi placed spontaneity and sincerity at the heart of his art. When he painted on the motif: trees, animals, dilapidated slums, monasteries or portraits of simple people, the artist sought above all to transpose to the canvas the emotion felt. He lived his entire life in Romania under the communist dictatorship without participating in the cult of the personality of Ceauşescu, which earned him to be kept relatively away.
