Saturday, September 17, 2022, two departures are scheduled for 9 am and 11 am. On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, the OVSM-IPGP proposes a visit to the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Martinique. These visits are free, but upon registration MANDATORY, since we cannot receive more than 20 people at a time. Registration on 05 96 78 41 41.

Following the eruption of May 8, 1902, a first observatory of Mount Pelee was erected in front of the volcano, on the Morne des Cadets, at the instigation of Alfred Lacroix, professor at the National Museum of Natural History.
A new observatory was then created on the Morne Moustin in 1935, after the last eruptive period from 1929 to 1932 and it was in 1946 that the mission of monitoring the volcano was entrusted to the Institut de physique du globe de Paris (IPGP).
In 2019, the volcanological and seismological observatory of Martinique is set up in a new earthquake-resistant and paracyclonic building, on the morne la Rosette in Saint-Pierre, built and made available by the Territorial Collectivity of Martinique (CTM).
