Église Saint-Philippe-du-Roule
154 rue du Faubourg-Saint-Honoré 75008 Paris
At the beginning of the thirteenth century exists in this district, where the habitat was already present at the time of Clovis and Merovingians, a hamlet named Le Roule. In 1217, a chapel was added to the Léproserie du Roule where leprosy and other skin diseases were treated. With the support of the bishop of Paris, this leprosy was gradually directed, between the end of the thirteenth century and the beginning of the fourteenth century, by the Parisian collectors who provided the bulk of the financial means in place of the private donations which were becoming scarce. The chapel of the hospice is placed under the protection of Saint Philip and Saint James the Minor, whom the Church celebrates together, at that time, on May 1\. The place became a parish church in 1699\. The current church is built between 1774 and 1784 on the drawings of Jean-François Chalgrin (designer of the Arc de Triomphe).
